It can be very expensive and time consuming to tackle stubborn weeds.

The pesky plants can be very tricky to remove from your garden and they can always find a way to grow again.

Desperate gardeners often fork out for pricey bottles or sachets of weed killer to stop them from coming back.

Luckily a money savvy woman has shared an inexpensive tip to get your garden looking its best for summer.

She claims you only need three ingredients you can buy for only 59p at your nearest Home Bargains.

But most of them you can find laying around in your kitchen.

The recipe consists of using a litre of white vinegar, three large spoons of salt, three large spoons of washing-up liquid and a spray bottle.

On a Facebook post she said: "My mum was talking about the weeds growing up between the slabs on her driveway and path. Couldn't sleep the other night so started googling away.

"Came across this website detailing how to make your own weed killer at home.

She added: "Bought the vinegar from Home Bargains (59p for 500ml) and she already had rest of the ingredients needed."

This comes another homesteader shared her hands-off hack for tackling weeds in your garden.

The content creator showed her followers how she protects her garden for free using cardboard walking paths, which she placed over the areas with weeds.

The cardboard slowly kills the weeds underneath with no additional effort required.

Katie explained: "You can't use any old cardboard, there are two things that we need to make sure to avoid so you're not dumping toxins into your garden.

"Avoid using cardboard that's shiny and has a lot of pigmentation, instead we want boring brown cardboard," she told viewers.

Other savvy homeowners shared another totally free trick they swear by to kill weeds the same day.

They recommended to pour hot boiling water to see results almost instantly.

One said: "Poured hot water on the weeds and next day they were burnt to a crisp, then I pulled them out and not seen any since."
