Terminix Review of 2022 - MarketWatch

Terminix Plans and Services

Terminix offers both one-time services for infestations and ongoing pest control treatments. The company also offers annual plans to address and monitor bed bugs, termites and more. The most common plans and services offered by Terminix include:

  • General pest control
  • Termite control
  • Mosquito services
  • Bed bug services

General Pest Control

The Terminix general pest control plan includes a comprehensive interior and exterior inspection and treatment and seasonal exterior treatments four times a year. Trained and insured technicians will adjust the treatments based on the season's pest problems. If pests return, the company's satisfaction guarantee promises follow-up treatment at no additional cost.

Common pests treated in this plan include:

  • Centipedes
  • Clothes moths
  • Cockroaches
  • Earwigs
  • House ants, excluding carpenter ants, fire ants, pharaoh ants and tawny crazy ants
  • House crickets
  • Mice
  • Millipedes
  • Paper wasps
  • Rats
  • Scorpions
  • Silverfish
  • Spiders, excluding black widow and brown recluse spiders

The exact pests covered under Terminix's general pest control plan will be determined by seasonal factors and your home's location. For example, certain types of pests, such as house crickets, are more active at different times of the year and not every home will need treatments for regional pests such as scorpions.

Termite Control

Terminix offers multiple termite control methods but will need to complete a free termite inspection before recommending a treatment and prevention plan. For termite prevention, the Terminix OnGuard® Termite Protection System is available as a standalone service or bundled with general pest control. The treatment includes the installation of bait systems designed to poison colonies in addition to annual monitoring services.

If you're facing a current termite infestation, Terminix may apply one or more of the following measures to eliminate termite activity:

  • Liquid treatments around your home's exterior perimeter
  • Bait systems that will be carried back to the colony
  • Dry foam in indoor areas where termites are tricky to reach
  • Fumigation treatments that involve tenting your entire home and spraying pesticides designed to kill termites
  • Heat treatments that raise the temperature of your home's interior to eliminate indoor termites

Technicians will determine the best method to treat your home after a thorough inspection. More serious, whole-home measures such as fumigation and heat treatments may require homeowners to leave the premises in the case of a severe infestation.

Mosquito Services

During an initial inspection, a Terminix technician will determine the best mosquito treatment for your yard and identify problem areas, such as standing water, that may be breeding grounds for these pests. Options for mosquito services include natural treatments, liquid pesticides and granular treatments applied directly to your soil. The provider offers one-time treatments and ongoing mosquito services throughout warmer months in your region.

Bed Bug Services

Terminix offers pest management for bed bugs customized to your home's needs. In an initial visit, a technician will inspect your linens, upholstered furniture and bedding for signs of bed bug activity.

Next, they will remove any visible bed bugs or eggs around the home. They may also employ common treatments such as steam, encasements and monitoring devices depending on the level of infestation.

Other Services

The area of the country you live in may determine what services your local Terminix branch offers. However, there are many treatment plans and standalone services available. Other Terminix services may include:

  • Attic insulation treatment
  • Crawl space treatments
  • Fleas
  • Moths
  • Ticks
  • Wasps
  • Wildlife control for animals such as raccoons or squirrels

How Much Does Terminix Cost?

An annual pest control plan with Terminix typically costs between $550 and $700. The exact cost of your plan will vary depending on the size of your home, the plan you select and the frequency of treatments selected. The cost of the initial visit will be priced slightly higher than ongoing treatments. After receiving 34 quotes from Terminix for homes across the nation, we determined that the average price of the first visit was $99.
